Browser Requirements
Our web site is designed to work with 3.0 browsers and higher. To experience the site to its fullest, you should use Netscape 4.0 or Internet Explorer 4.0 browsers and higher. Both browsers are free and can be downloaded from Netscape and Microsoft.
Ordering from us requires the use of an SSL-compliant browser. We recommend using Netscape 3.02 or higher, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher, or the 4.0 or higher versions of the AOL browser.
Viewing the Site
This site is designed for a monitor set at 800 x 600 resolution, set to thousands (or more) of colors. If your monitor is set at a lower resolution (such as 640 x 480), sections of the site will require scrolling both horizontally and vertically. If your monitor is only showing 16 or 256 colors, many of the images will "dither." This means they will be reduced to the amount of colors currently available on your computer (or color depth), making the images appear at a significantly lower quality. To fully experience the beauty of our product images, simply increase the number of colors available to your computer.
Here are some tips on how to improve your image viewing by increasing your resolution and color depth:
Windows:
Open the "Display" option in your control panel. Click on the "Settings" tab at the top of the window. Use the sliding bar beneath "Screen Area" to increase your monitor resolution to 800X600 or more. To increase your computer's color depth, click on the drop down list beneath "Colors," and choose "High Color" or "True Color."
Macintosh:
Open the "Monitors & Sound" control panel. Click on one of the options beneath "Resolution" that is 800X600 or greater. To increase your computer's color depth, select one of the options underneath "Colors" that is greater than 256.
AOL Customers
If you are viewing Africanmecca.com with an AOL browser, we recommend that you upgrade to the most recent version. AOL browsers automatically compress images, making them appear at a significantly lower quality. To fully experience the beauty of our product images, follow these simple instructions:
1. Turn off image compression
If you are browsing with AOL 3.0 and 4.0 versions that use Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, go to the top toolbar and select "My AOL" or "Members," click on "Preferences," and then choose "WWW." Click on the "Web Graphics" tab, and uncheck the checkbox labeled "Use Compressed Graphics."
2. Empty your image cache< BR>Browsers often store previously viewed images in a "cache." Unfortunately, the cache contains files that have been compressed and are of lower quality. In order to optimally view images on Africanmecca.com, it's a good idea to remove these files. With an AOL browser, choose "Preferences" from the "My AOL" or "Members" menu. Click on the "WWW" icon in the left-hand menu, and then click on the button labeled "Empty Cache Now."
